What is Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3)?

Cholecalciferol, also known as Vitamin D3, is a form of Vitamin D that helps the body absorb calcium and phosphorus, which are essential for bone health. It is often prescribed to treat or prevent Vitamin D deficiency, ensuring proper bone, muscle, and immune function.

  • Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) capsules are used for:
  • Vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency
  • Osteoporosis (to help prevent fractures)
  • Rickets (a condition causing soft and weak bones in children)
  • Osteomalacia (softening of the bones in adults)
  • Supporting overall bone health
  • Muscle weakness and pain caused by Vitamin D deficiency
  • Boosting immune function
  • Hypoparathyroidism (for calcium absorption)
  • Familial hypophosphatemia (phosphate regulation)
  • Kidney diseases (to prevent calcium loss and maintain bone health)
  • Pregnancy and lactation (fetal development)
  • Dosage: Follow the dosage as prescribed by your healthcare provider. The usual dose may vary based on your age, health condition, and Vitamin D levels.
  • Administration: Take the capsule whole with water. It is best to take the capsule with a meal to improve absorption. Do not chew or crush the capsule.
  • Timing: Take your capsule at the same time each day for consistency.
  • Consistency: For maximum benefit, do not skip doses. If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it's almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.

Cholecalciferol may interact with other medications. Always inform your healthcare provider about any other medications you are taking, especially:

  • Anticonvulsants (e.g., phenytoin, carbamazepine)
  • Glucocorticoids (steroids like prednisone)
  • Thiazide diuretics (e.g., hydrochlorothiazide)
  • Calcium supplements or other Vitamin D supplements

Your doctor may adjust the dosage or monitor your treatment more closely if you're taking any of these drugs.

Taking too much Cholecalciferol can lead to hypercalcemia (elevated calcium levels in the blood).
Symptoms of overdose may include:

Nausea and vomiting
Loss of appetite
Excessive thirst and urination
Weakness or fatigue
Muscle or bone pain
If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately

  • Store the Cholecalciferol capsules in a cool, dry place away from heat and moisture.
